Rotary began in 1905, the vision of Paul Harris, an attorney in Chicago who saw a need to connect people of different vocations with a shared vision of service above self.
Rotary has three branches: Rotary Clubs, The Rotary Foundation, and Rotary International (RI).
Clubs are grouped into districts to make local administration easier. There are over 500 districts throughout the world, with a range of between 45-60 clubs each. Each district is led by a Governor, who is assisted by other officers. The annual District Conference emphasizes fellowship and a chance to share ideas, as well as a place to conduct District business.
Annually, RI holds an international convention offering an opportunity for Rotarians from all over the world the opportunity to connect and learn about the incredible work happening and needs across the globe. A different host city is selected each year.
