In 2010, Howell joined the Arcola Sunrise Rotary Club. He has held a number of offices, including club president and currently is the youth exchange officer for the club. During his year as president, Arcola Sunrise received the Star Club recognition, was awarded a presidential citation and was a runner-up as Small Club of the Year. In 2014, Howell was named Arcola Sunrise Rotarian of the Year.
On the district level, Howell has served as assistant governor, chair of the District Grants Committee, a Rotary Youth Exchange Committee member and is on the Shelter Box Committee. He is a graduate of the Rotary Leadership Institute and currently serves as a facilitator. Howell received the D6490 New Rotarian of the Year award in 2011-12 and was named Rotarian of the Year for D6490 in 2013-14.
The new DGN grew up in Arthur. He received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois in 1968 and an MBA in finance from the University of Pittsburgh in 1978. He has served in senior management positions, such as controller, chief financial officer and president, with four global engineering and construction companies in the engineering/construction/plant operations areas. He served as president of Exeter Energy, a power generating facility in Connecticut. He has been a member of the Construction Financial Management Association and the American Association of
Cost Engineers. After living in a number of major American cities and various countries for 40 years in his career, Howell retired and moved to Arcola in 2010.
Howell also has served on the Arcola Chamber of Commerce board and is a member of the First Baptist Church in Arthur. He has volunteered at the Arthur United Methodist Church weekly community meal since 2011 and is a state-certified Food Service Sanitation Manager. He previously served three years as chairman of the board of the South Hills
YMCA in Bethel Park, Pa. He has one son, Jeremy, and two grand daughters.
